Creative Critical Reflection

Image
 1.  Our product utilizes conventions set by the car industry of advertising the speed and class of a vehicle. Commonly, when selling a sporty vehicle like a BMW, advertisers will feature media that highlights the speed that is attainable within it. Additionally, we add a level of class to the vehicle through the imagery of a suited figure exiting the car. This is a convention with car commercials as well. The main social group we represent are relatively wealthy people, as that is the main market for these cars. It represents these individuals as sophisticated, slick, and "speedy." This begins intertwined with the car. 2. Our product engages with audience by immersing them within the speed of the vehicle. It gives them a metaphorical taste into what the driving experience is like. This drives them to want more, wishes pushes them to engage with the product in the real world. This media text would be distributed on any media with ad space that is mainly used by young adults t

Car Commercial Video

Hello all! Here is my finished car commercial! This has been an absolute group effort, at every stage. We have refined this video to complete perfection. I am very proud of what we have produced.

Finalizing Production

Image
Welcome to the final production blog for our car commercial! We have completed the main structural components of the commercial. The editing is mostly finalized. Finishing touches are simply being added on. Music, voiceover, and transitions are integral to a finalized product. Logan has reshot the vertical camera takes, keeping the landscape aesthetic intact. Specifically, we reshot the scene with the manual stick. This will make the "action sequence" flow very well. Also, we have another editor doing work on the project, Ryan. Its interesting to see a different style of editing. Overall, collaboration has made this project a smooth production. Logan gave us access to props, (cars). Ryan was an integral actor, and late-production editor. Nick helped in every stage, mainly helping with directing on site. Watching over the continuous stages of editing is a very fun experience, and I enjoyed it as my second job on the project. The process is enchanting. The pure evolution of cl

Footage Review

Image
Welcome to my second production blog! The main thing I have worked after filming was reviewing the footage. Our editor  has been sharing his rough drafts with the entire group. This has made the finalizing processes very cooperative. I enjoy when everyone gets to share their perspective, especially when mine is heard. When more ideas are put into a space, it becomes less of an echo chamber. Varying viewpoints are heard, and the best possible result is made. It becomes more of a group effort. Seeing the footage evolve is also a very fun experience. The first version is just a compilation of clips filmed on a phone. It is very crude, and is simply a moving storyboard for the commercial. The audio is raw, and no transitions are in place. The next few versions add mainly audio, which can change a commercial completely. Music and voiceover can alter the mood and pace drastically. The car commercial will hopefully feel fast, and intense to the viewer. We also need to reshoot a view scenes,

Production Blog

Image
Welcome to my production blog. My main job through the duration of the filming was camera man. We are doing a car commercial, so capturing it on camera was slightly challenging. Its faster than a human (obviously), so keeping up with it was pretty hard. It was very fun to experiment with camera movement. One scene was very interesting to film. I sat in the passenger seat, and filmed the speedometer as Logan sped up. It was very fun to sit the classic car, as Logan jammed the manual stick increasing in speed. Speaking of classic cars, the filming location was a car part manufacturer. I got to see BMW race cars, and the machines that make the parts for them. Logan had completely remade a classic car, and making a commercial about felt like a father showcasing his baby. The best shot I helped with was the ending shot, which featured Ryan leaving the car in a pseudo-suit, clicking the keys closing the car. It showed off the luxury we were trying to show. Another interesting part was filmi

StoryBoard Blog

Story board blog   First scene: During this scene we will be filming a BMW, more specifically an e36 M3, for the commercial. This shot will be an extreme close-up of the back wheel and muffler of the car. This shot will be filmed inside the warehouse. We want to do this shot to show the performance of the car because BMW focuses so heavily on the performance of the car.   Second scene: We will get a shot of the car / cars rolling out of the warehouse getting different shots and then get it driving onto the road.     Third scene: we get a shot of the car driving on a separate road away from the warehouse with shots of it driving by quickly.   Fourth scene: In th is scene it will focus on the speedometer on a close up to show the performance and speed in a way people can really understand of what the car is capable of    Fifth scene: In the fifth scene the car hits its climax speed for the commercial to show it in action also advertising its performance to people who like s
